展览介绍及艺术评论家的展前评论:
Ou Wenting’s works, exhibited at A60 Contemporary Art Space in Florence, include ten black and white photographs"X and Y"and two videos. The subjects of the photographs represent an essential component of the artist’s long and elaborate creative process. In fact, Ou Wenting created and designed, 3D printed and photographed these subjects. The subjects have different shapes which, at firts glance, resemble insects or marine animals. However, by observing them more carefully, they turn out to be fantastic creatures evolved from the artist’s creative process. Their existence seems to recall the brevity of their transit on earth, evoked by the background of the photos, roky and granite in contrast to the lightness of the subjects in the foreground. Their fragile, delicate passage destined to disappear in analogy with human beings, is delivered to immortality throgh the artist’s photographic shots. Conscious of the transience of their existence, these creatures live in pairs and communicate with each other through a silent dialogue made of balance, support and closeness. And it is through this closeness that the subjects “representing ourselves as well” as Ou Wenting says. Convulsive and moving are the solitary figures that populate the two videos. In“Monomer Touch”and“Rotate Tactile”the rythm is fast, nervous and constant, stimulating the movement of the two subjects as a mechanical dancer. It is a frenetic repetition and in this crystallized dance we seem to see all the stillness of the present.

In the Florentine location of A60 Contemporary Art Space, the chinese artist Ou Wenting shows on photography and video some digital works. In this cycle of"X and Y"works the artist reproduces pairs of living beings that seem to be coming from other planets. By this way Ou Wenting introduces a new linguistic element. She removes its intimate connotation from sculpture: the materiality. The white animals made by 3D printing are reminiscent of micro organisms, insects that seem to mate or challenge each other in a fight for survival.
The use of black and white photography allows subjects that seem suspended in time to be enhanced. The ten photographic shots have a strong visual impact, they can live independently or communicate with each other but always bring out the strong scenographic component also accompanied by elements of surreality mixed here skillfully.
In the video works“Monomer Touch”and“Rotate Tactile”, Ou Wenting returns to manipulate and create small sculptures as in “Similar to Dance”. This works anticipates the idea of movement that it will later be materialized in the videos. This ability allows the artist to give movement to his sculptures, sometimes staging a frantic dance, almost a mating ritual. The repetitive mechanical sound accompanies the figures that seem to be governed by mechanical impulses. Video shooting using frames also reinforces this idea and brings it to life. As in the"X and Y"photographic series, here too black and white allows you to focus the user attention, exclusively on the subject and in the movement.
